Born in 1990, Taipei, Taiwan. Yutien Chang received his B.F.A in Sculpture Department from National Taiwan University of Art, Taiwan. And M.F.A in Studio Art Program at Brooklyn College, United States. His sculptures have been exhibited and screened worldwide, such as at the Salmagundi art club, Smack Mellon Gallery, Amerasia Gallery in New York City, Todd art gallery in Murfreesboro, Go gallery in Amsterdam, Anna25 Gallery in Germany, Helios Gallery in Taiwan. Yutien’s sculptures also appeared in various online and printed publications, such as Focus magazine, ARTE FUSE, and One art Taipei Art Fair.
Yutien is interested in examining theexpectations that are place on us by society and our families when we are making our life choices and selecting careers. He is specifically attracted to evaluating the effects of succumbing to these expectations and in following the way that we tend to cope with them. Personally, he feels trapped, powerless, and strangled; and continually worries about his future and the direction in which our society is moving.
Yutien’s work examinesthese deep-seated fears. Using animals as a metaphor for how humans interact in today’s society, which is a culturally consonant trope and staple of Chinese folklore, his sculpture shows how our own compulsive behaviors align with those of animals. In the West there is visual precedent for this in the work of movie, comics, and cartoons, which helps ,ake his critique more universally accessible. He worries, that like animals, we no longer are in control of our own destiny.
張郁田1990年生於台北，畢業於國立台灣藝術大學雕塑系學士，紐約市立部布魯克林大學Studio Art碩士，創作形式以雕塑為主，往返台灣及美國進行創作。他的雕塑作品在許多國家曝光，如紐約的 Salmagundi art club, Smack Mellon Gallery,Amerasia Gallery，莫非斯堡的Todd art gallery，荷蘭阿姆斯特丹的Go gallery，德國的Anna25 Gallery，以及台灣的Helios Gallery。 網路平台與雜誌上亦可見，列如 Focus藝術雜誌，Art FUSE，以及One Art Taipei藝術博覽會。
張郁田的創作理念出於日常生活中值得深思的相互關係，淺談職業選擇、社會價值，深究家庭期望與自身探討。他善於運用寫實細膩的手法，刻劃出社會期望差異進而產生的矛盾議題。就他而言，這樣的關係是十分無力且無助，但人們也在這樣的反思中找到生存的意義，藉由藝術創作細細探討摸索，人生的十字路口在該如何面對與找到方向。
